Become A Tutor!

Recruitment 2012

We’re currently finished our winter recruitment, although we’d like to keep you informed about the upcoming opportunities we have for the spring/summer before September recruitment rolls around again. This could be a great opportunity to do something meaningful over the summer to help those in your community (or outside of your community, for those interested in a real adventure!

Click to visit the Frontier College Job Opportunities page of our national website which is listing the (1) Labourer Teacher [March 15 application deadline] and (2) Aboriginal Camp Counsellor [February 29 application deadline] positions. The deadline is fast approaching (although it is often extended) so please respond quickly if you’re interested. **Sometimes deadlines are extended, please double-check link below!

We’re also recruiting volunteers to help with the summer Reading Tent program in June, July and August. We’ll send out a posting for that sometime in May so keep your eyes peeled!

For those of you keen on volunteering with us in the new school year (2012-2013), you can take a look at the following:

Begin by taking a look at our program sites. Pick one or two sites that interest you. (Placement is subject to availability, but we always do our best to match tutors to their preferred sites.)

  1. Fill out an application form and email this form to utoronto@frontiercollege.ca
  2. Complete Frontier College’s orientation (dates for information sessions and orientation are posted in late-August for information sessions)
  3. Attend an informal interview (that we’ll arrange with you, although this usually takes place at the info session
  4. Complete the appropriate police background check forms (vulnerable sector search) – Frontier College will provide the forms and pay for the checks
  5. Attend a mandatory tutor training session (dates posted in September, training takes place on 1-weekend day early October)

For questions and inquiries, please email us at utoronto@frontiercollege.ca!

Frontier College screens all volunteers before allowing them to start tutoring in our programs.

This process begins with providing us your application and supporting documents, after which we’ll schedule an informal interview. Before you can begin tutoring, you’ll need to attend tutor training and participate in an on-site orientation lead by your site co-ordinator. It’s that easy!

To apply to become a tutor, please provide us with the following:

(1) Your completed application form, please download by clicking on the preferred format below:

(2) three references (in Canada or the US)
